Loststar
Age: 34 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: TealClan
Desired Position: Leader
Quick Description:
Large black tom with mis-matched eyes
Appearance:
Named for his dark appearance, Loststar has a black coat without any luster which helps him blend into the darkest of nights. Not even the glowing sunlight throws any sort of shine into his coat. However, if Loststar let anyone look close, they would be able to make out flecks of silver buried under his dark fur, but then again, no one ever gets that close.
Without the uniqueness of his eyes, Loststar would be merely another face in the crowd, no fancy stripes, spots, or markings to set him apart from the other gorgeously-hued cats. In fact, his coat makes his gaze even more catching. One of his eyes is a dark brown, almost black, that is hardly visible as it blends into his coat. His other eyes is a beautiful silvery-grey, the only part of his body that catches any light at all. Cats tend to be put off guard by the strangeness of his unsettling gaze, though he rarely uses it to intimidate or scare another cat.
His sheer size also makes him an impressive figure and at gatherings, it is easy to pick out TealClan's leader as he towers over the rest of his clan. His shoulders are very broad and square-like with a square jaw and sharp facial features, although this is hard to notice without the contrast of different colors in his coat. Because of his strong statue, he looks much older then his moons, though he is easily one of the younger leaders. The only childlike feature of his body is his wide round eyes which sharply contrast with the angles that dominate the rest of his body. He is not the handsomest of the young toms, but certainly one of the more noticeable.
Personality:
Not one for social engagements, Loststar can be standoffish and aloof to strangers, acquaintances, and sometimes to his closest friends, which he has very few of. The strongest love he feels is for Beestripe, his little brother, as he was willing to give him up in order for Beestripe to enjoy a better life. Loststar's life hasn’t been easy and he keeps his distance in order to avoid attachments. When he does make friends, he tends to enjoy the company of straight-forward honest cats, having seen too many flatterers for his liking. However, his aloofness makes him a dedicated member of the clan who never loses sight of his duties, which is what made him a good choice for deputy in the first place.
His hunting and fighting skills are phenomenal, enhanced by his sheer size, but after the incident with Sunrise Clan, he is more reluctant to show them off, scared that he might be tempted into the ways of his old clan. He is not a war-monger by any means, preferring to avoid a fight at all costs, a far cry from his former self, but Loststar learned from his own experience. He fights only to protect others and doesn’t rise to taunts or petty quarrels.
His luck with the she-cats is, to put it nicely, unfortunate. He lacks the natural charisma that his brother so easily posessess and although his clan looks up to him with respect and admiration, his calculating ways have a hard time softening a she-cat's heart. He tends to tense up around them and in the presence of more charming cats, his deputy Crowflight for instance, Loststar is often looked over. In fact, he is a little scared of having a mate or being a father, but if he did, his loyalty and protectiveness would certainly show his love, even if he has no pretty words to prove it.
If given a cause, he can be fiercely loyal and protective to those he cares about. He speaks bluntly and honestly, when he does speak, perhaps a good and bad trait. He never dwells on how other cats perceive him which enchances his ability to make rational calculations and desicions for the clan, not swayed by any emotional stake. He is mostly a solitary being and finds peace in nature, feeling the most at ease at a tranquil isolated spot.
History:
Before joining TealClan, Loststar was clanless, wandeirng the lands in search of a better home after leaving his clan in the midst of a tragedy. Loststar and his brother Beestripe were members of Sunset Clan, the opposing clan being Sunrise Clan. Both had always been noble clans where honor and dignity were placed above the rest, until Sunset Clan started to take a turn for the worst. The old leader retired, and the deputy took over, Tangledtree, the father of Loststar and Beestripe. Charismatic and calculating, he seized power, cats falling prey to his charm and grandoise ambitious ideas of SunsetClan ruling the forest. Slowly fights became more deceitful, prey-stealing more common, and the warrior code was slowly thrown out. Loststar tried to turn a blind eye to this, not wanting to turn against or see the terrible crimes commited by his father, but eventually realized this was going from bad to worse and there would be no place for him and his little brother. Sunrise Clan fought valiantly against this with everything they had. However, Sunset Clan was many, powerstarved and corrupted cats that decided to put an end to Sunrise Clan for good.
One chilly night, Sunset Clan, under Tangledtree, set fire to Sunrise Clan, destroying all, but one, a young warrior named Morninglight. After a gallant fight, she fled for her life, away from the scorched ruins of her former clan. Loststar was shocked and horrified at this and took Beestripe away from their former clan to find a better life. Unfortunately, Loststar was unable to take care of Beestripe, having little experience in parenting. After running into the last member of Sunset Clan, Morninglight, he desperately begged her to help in one of his only moments of weakness. She agreed, and in exchange, Loststar severed his bloodties to Beestripe, hoping that he would never have to learn of his bloody past or connection to Loststar.
Morninglight grew to love Beestripe and raised him, pretending to be his older sister. Loststar kept his distance in hopes to remove a dark stain from Beepaw’s past and future. Things were complicated however when Loststar, against his own better judgement, grew to like, and even though he won't admit this, love Morninglight. Her dedication and affection towards Beestripe touched Loststar. This scared him however, the son of her family's murderer, he thought, was not worthy of her love, another reason that led to his leaving. Their journey eventually led them here and it was here that Loststar decided to leave their group, never knowing that they would eventually join two opposing clans. Loststar will always regret and feel an immeasurable amount of guilt for the destruction of Morninglight’s family and it haunts him to this day.
He was lucky to be welcomed with open arms to TealClan and his quiet dedication and commitment to the clan won him the respect of others and the title of deputy. Eventually, when the leader passed away, he took on the mantle of leader, a position he would have never dreamed of assuming. He rules with the constant fear that perhaps the ambitious that consumed his father resides in his veins, which makes him slow to make desicions, both a good and bad trait in the leader of TealClan.
Before, when he was a warrior, he thought often of his brother, but didn't want to tempt the clan rules by sneaking for a visit. Since the move, he struggles with telling Beestripe the truth or never breaking his silence. He knows that it will only complicate Beestripe’s life, but Loststar again feels the urge to have his family back once more.
