going deeper
face value: Firestone has always been cursed with classically good looks, something that is not all too important in his profession. With a typical build, lean yet muscled, his blessed appearance comes in the pattern of his bright orange pelt. His fur is a base of white, with bright orange layered over top in a bold tabby print. Fiercely bright amber eyes that burn like flames are his strongest facial features, and he one cannot look at him without noticing their eternal kindness and love. But you also see pain, deep, scarred pain, a pain that seems to go deeper and deeper...But then you slide over his eyes and return to the bright, vibrant colors of his soft pelt, and the she-cats wonder why he ever gave up his right to have a mate. He would have such handsome kits, what a shame. But you can tell by the eager prance in his step and the tender expression in those haunted eyes that he loves his profession, loves it almost as much as he loves his family. image
beneath the surface: Caring. There, in a word, is Firestone. Caring. He gives and gives of himself to those that he loves until there is nothing left- he cares for those around him, cares for their health, cares for their heart, cares that they are as happy as they can be. That's one of the things that makes him a good medicine cat- his compassionate and caring heart. Then again, when his family or Clan has been wronged, he can become angry, furious for the injustice done to those he loves. He can be extremely overprotective, especially of his sister and her kits, but he does it out of his sheer love for them. He gives his entire being to his Clan through his caring nature, selfless heart, protective spirit and unbeatable faith in StarClan. Once in awhile, however, a pang of jealousy creeps upon him, longing for a mate. Those are the times when he retreats to himself and sleeps, waiting for the sweet taste of StarClan which comforts him and reminds him of his noble calling.
into the past: Firestone's life was pretty normal- being a Medicine Cat, and all. He was born into a litter of two, with his beloved sister, Brackenpaw. Their mother was a she-cat named Treefoot, and their father, well, he didn't really know his father. As a kit, Firekit was very sweet and playful, his eyes often sparkling at the smallest of things. He absolutely adored his sister, and was very protective of 'Bwackenkit.'
Then, nearly six moons later, he found his destiny. He was merely playing in camp, when he saw Tawnystone, helping a tom who had cut his paw open. He snuck into the den and watched, fascinated. Once the tom was firmly asleep, Firekit piped up and meowed, "Can I do that?"
And so, he became Medicine Cat apprentice. Shortly after his ceremony, and Brackenpaw's ceremony, giving her to Dewdrop, Firepaw sensed something wrong. Brackenpaw...she was...angry with him. He couldn't understand it! She was never angry or resentful of him. It was confusing, and it hurt his heart worse than any other could. Yet days after their ceremony, a thorn was caught in her paw, and he removed it with the gentlest of care. After that, her resentment vanished, and their relationship grew.
Moons passed in training, until one day, it was the Half-moon meeting of the Medicine Cats. And it was time for him to receive his name. That night was a night he would never forget, and would cherish forever. After that night, he became Firestone. He returned to camp with his adored mentor Tawnystone, and they worked in harmony.
He could tell that Brackenpaw was restless for her own ceremony to come; after Dewdrop's disappearance, her training had suffered, and she had no ceremony. On a fateful patrol, Nightstar was killed by none other than Dewdrop- it was Firestone's first glimpse into actual fighting.
And in that moment, he was more glad than ever that he did not become a Warrior. Nightstar's death sent the Clan reeling into sorrow, and finally, the Journey began. And on that Journey, something happened. Brackenpaw became pregnant. Firestone resented his sister after he initially found out, wondering how she could blatantly break the Warrior code. But after a vision from StarClan, he forgave her, and loves her no matter what. He loves his sister Brackenwing and her three kits, Stagpaw, Deerpaw and Fawnpaw.
Something that shook Firestone deeply to the core was the death of his mentor, Tawnystone. What broke his heart was the fact that he always imagined Tawnystone as a mother-figure, someone who nurtured and cared for him. He always pictured himself as her son, sort of. What killed him was that the last cat she chose to speak with before her suicide was some RavineClanner. He felt abandoned, resentful, unloved. He still has trouble getting over that sometimes....he misses Tawnystone and wonders if she ever even loved him.
But what he does is get by, follow StarClan, serve CherryClan and love his Clanmates. That's what his life is defined by: love.
No matter what...
