☼ Does that kit ever stop smiling? Those were the wise words that a queen had asked to particularly nobody as Amberglow - then Amberkit – passed by, innocently batting at a stray leaf that flew in the wind with a smile as big as the sun, plastered across her face. On that day, a long time ago, she appeared as if she hadn’t heard the pretty she-cat, but those words still reside in her mind to this very day. And now, sitting peacefully and letting her ginger fur soak up all the sunshine in the deserted moor, she couldn’t help but wonder, how she could have responded to that question. Ever since she was young, she was constantly known as ''the smiler'' because she could make almost anyone smile just by doing so, - and like her mother had always said - she was the clan’s constant sunshine. Oh, but of course she couldn’t tell whether what she was told was true or not, as these now heart-warming memories, might have been little fibs that she was told to as a kit, but no matter what the cause; she promised her mother that she would keep on smiling.
At that very moment, a pretty little blue butterfly had flew by after brushing her nose with it's delicate wings. Distracted, Amberglow hadn’t noticed it was even there until she began sneezing madly. Snapping back to reality, she rubbed her nose with her front paws, and accidentally toppled over on her back. The young femme laughed at her own little show as the tiny insect flew away. Who knew a little butterfly could do so much, she mused joyfully. She sat back up, her entire body alert, and wondered if she should chase the little creature, but her abnormal inner laziness had gotten the best of her at the moment, so she plopped back down and closed her eyes. Amberglow could just reminisce the times when her father had told her that she was so much like her, and it was true. She had seemed very alike to the lovely and beautiful Leaftwist, physically and mentally. They both had the same dark, sapphire-green gaze that glimmered with bliss, sunny smile, and the same glossy sunset-tinged tabby fur. They were both shameless, and stubborn, unafraid to speak their mind if they had to. Sometimes even now, when she looked into a puddle of water after a recent rain, she felt that she was seeing her mother alive again right in front of her own paws – now that Amberglow was older they would have been impossible to tell apart. However, when her untimely death arrived, many things around the young ginger kit had changed, including herfather’sattitude to wards her, but she continuously stayed true to her promise, and kept smiling. Being the only daughter in the family was tough for Amberglow, since she had three older brothers from her parent’s first litter of kits. So once mother was not around anymore, and since her father was always busy with patrols, she constantly played with her older brothers. She loved, and still does love play-fighting and seeing who would be the first to finish their fresh kill. She didn’t care about what her actions and appearance said about her, or at least that was until the day her daddy actually acknowledged her existence properly after her mother’s death. It was a blazing hot afternoon that day. The sun was at its highest peak, and almost no cats were out in the open sunlight since the weather was incredibly warm. Everyone was either inside their dens or lying in the shade, except for one hunting patrol that was out for the rest of noon. Bored, young Amberpaw decided to have a little fun with two other apprentices. Play fighting and screaming lasted only a little while, and after all the fun, they found themselves in a dirty mud puddle near the medicine cat’s den. The brown water beginning to dry up and it had a foul scent, it was perfect. But she knew that her father hated the sight of his daughters beautiful ginger pelt being dirty, let alone the fact that she was playing foolish games when she could have been doing something more important. She couldn’t help herself though; the mud puddle was very cool and refreshing. '' Come on, this is awesome! '' She yelled over at her friends who joined her quickly. They were rolling and jumping and throwing mud all over each other having the most fun. She was surely smiling, and she hoped that her mother could see how jovial she was. She threw a huge amount of mud at her gray furred friend. At that moment she couldn’t help but gasp. Her friends were out of sight and the only cat there was her gray-furred daddy, wearing a disgusted expression on his gaunt features. '' What are you doing? '' He said in an irritated tone. Still smiling, she replied, '' I’m having fun, daddy. '' It seemed as if all he could do at the moment was stare at her, his blue green eyes filled with the strangest emotions. They were so dark, she couldn’t tell, but was that desire and grief that reflected in his sapphire pools? Could he see his mate, Leaftwist standing in front of him, rather than Amberpaw? '' Get out. '' Was all he could say before closing his eyes. Anger filled up inside the young apprentice. She had been happy with her friends, couldn’t he tell? It’s not like she was doing anything wrong, was she? '' You never let me have fun! If mother was here, she would have let me do this. Instead, I was stuck with you! '' She yelled, tears welling up in her eyes.
She could not bring herself to regret what she said that day. Whatever dreams her father had about her being his behaved darling little princess, she knew he had forgotten, since he wouldn’t bear to look at her anymore. More importantly, he was too caught up in the past to realize what was happening in the present – did he not notice that his own daughter had turned into a warrior? It did not matter to her anyway - before she knew it, she could not even recognize who he was anymore. At this, she couldn’t help but laugh at; it was strange how memories of her past made her more cheerful rather than depressed. Amberglow stood up and stretched, judging it was about time to head back to Cherryclan.
He was nothing to her, nothing but a memory.
